Dr. Torrey is a researcher in Animal Biosciences, studying poultry behaviour and welfare. Her team of graduate and undergraduate students focus on fundamental and applied research with broiler and broiler breeder chickens and turkeys.
The past, current and upcoming studies include those examining feed restriction practices in broiler breeders; development of injurious pecking in turkeys; transportation and mortality rates; leg health; and on-farm euthanasia methods.
She collaborates with veterinarians, nutritionists, geneticists and physiologists to use a multidisciplinary approach to improving poultry welfare.
