Mr. Dam completed his BSc in environmental biology at the University of Guelph with a specialization in environmental impact. He has worked at Maple Leaf Poultry, Shur-Gain, and Nutreco. He is currently the poultry specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs. Not only does he work directly with the Government, Researchers and Industry workers, but he is also involved with training and educational programs. He is involved with many aspects of poultry farming: production, health and safety, transport, emergency preparedness, husbandry, market development, and biosecurity. The majority of his research applies directly to farm work; for example, his studies on mass euthanasia, which fall into the category of emergency preparedness and biosecurity. He collaborates with the Canadian Plains Research Center, Egg Farmers of Ontario, Chicken Farmers of Ontario, and the Ontario Broiler Hatching Egg and Chick Commission on the provincial level, Egg Farmers of Canada and Chicken Farmers of Canada on the national level, as well as various researchers at various universities. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs, the Poultry Industry Council, and Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council support his research.
